The Escalator Genre Fiction Competition is a literature development programme run by Writers’ Centre Norwich.
It’s very ace. Writers apply to win a year’s worth of mentoring, and get workshops and exposure to agents thrown in. The programme takes a different guise each year (poetry, fiction, live literature &c), and past winners have gone on to great things. As in they get agents, get published and sell books, which, if you’re a writer, is no mean feat.
This year’s (2012/13) focused on genre fiction writers. So you’ll see above, an escalator, a pencil and occupants from various genres using said escapencil.
At the time of writing this, the ten winners are about to read at a showcase event in Foyles Bookshop, London. Best of luck to them!
